I’m currently at work on:
- The Golden Slipper, a new libretto for Rossini’s score for La Centerentola (Cinderella). The new story is based very loosely on two sources, which are woven together: the libretto for Rossini’s opera and Ye Xian, a ninth-century Chinese version of the Cinderella story. The libretto will use spoken dialogue (dropping much of the sung dialogue from the Rossini opera) and is intended for family audiences.
- The Jade Stalk, a three-act play based on Jonathan Fast’s novel. A comedy about sex, religion, politics, and intrigue in the reign of the infamous Empress Wu of China. My first spoken play in a long while.
